The Spessart is a mountain range straddling the Bavaria and Hesse regions in Germany. It is bordered on three sides by the Main River and I can tell you it is a fantastic and beautiful area with breathtaking nature sceneries. The Spessart is probably best-known for the The Spessart Inn (Das Wirtshaus im Spessart), the frame story of the third chapter of Wilhelm Hauff’s fairytale almanac (1826) and for the West German musical comedy film. On my way to the Ragnarök Festival I passed the moated castle where the film was shot and visited it ;) I just had two hrs. only but I sure will go back for a longer stint :)
